Hello and welcome to the 25th session of the Dublin University Windsurfing Club. I hope both new and returning members will enjoy the upcoming year with the club – on and off the water. Our main aim is to introduce beginners to windsurfing, offer the support, and advice and help to improve your standard of windsurfing abilities. We also cater for the more experienced windsurfer.
Our club was founded twenty-five years ago in 1984 and has grown steadily, in both members and competitiveness, ever since. D.U.W.C. is open to all levels, and to ensure our beginners can grasp the basics, Discounted Level 1 lessons will be taking place in October for €99 from Wind & Wave. D.U.W.C. is active throughout the year, with sailing occurring every weekend whenever it is windy. This decision will be made on the Thursday before each weekend. Coaching and instruction will be available to all windsurfers every weekend by experienced windsurfers.
October will see D.U.W.C’s annual weekend from Fri 30th October to Mon 1st September. A trip that is definitely an experience not to be missed! The destination will offer an excellent venue for windsurfing and surfing. This supplies us with one of many non-wind activities. Body boarding and Surfing are all possible but windsurfing is the preferred activity. Accommodation is in three star holiday homes. Parties will be a plenty with a Halloween theme. So bring your fancy dress costume.
November sees more windsurfing and beginner and intermediate races within the club, taking place in Malahide. Party with prize giving will follow. Our Christmas party will be at the end of this month.
As a college club, D.U.W.C offers students the opportunity to partake in, and learn, a relative expensive sport at the very minimum cost. Therefore I would urge all club members to take advantage of the fact that D.U.W.C. owns a large collection of windsurfing gear – to suit all abilities – that is there for all members’ to use. Don’t miss this opportunity. So get involved and enjoy your stay in College.
See you on the waves.
